Empowering Village Housewives Through E-Commerce Training

Mojokerto – The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga, in collaboration with Yayasan Mandiri Ukhuwah Persada, has successfully carried out a community service program titled “Wise Online Transactions During the Pandemic” in Kedungsari Village, Kemlagi District, Mojokerto Regency. The initiative was designed to address the economic challenges faced by housewives during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly their limited knowledge of online shopping and digital marketplaces.

The program included seminars on financial literacy and safe online transactions, training on creating email accounts and marketplace profiles, practical exercises on using e-commerce applications, and workshops on product photography for online sales. An “Online Shopping Ambassador” was also selected from among the participants to serve as a local mentor and resource person for other women in the community.

Participants responded enthusiastically, gaining new digital skills and confidence to engage in online trade. The program not only improved household financial management but also opened opportunities for housewives to increase family income through e-commerce platforms. Outcomes of the program include scientific and media publications, video documentation, and tangible improvements in participants’ ability to navigate the online marketplace
